Hanson Sports and Social Club to host hair raising event in aid of GNAAS

THREE local residents from Colburn, Catterick Garrison have pledged to have their heads shaved as part of an annual family fun day and gig night in aid of GNAAS.

Kurt Price and Dave Bray have been growing their hair for six months in anticipation of the event, cleverly titled ‘Hair Ambulance’ which is being hosted at Hanson Sports and Social Club in Colburn on June 30.

Another local resident, Mandi Thompson, has also agreed to take part in the challenge, after being inspired by the idea.

Kerrie Price, who has organised the event alongside her mother, Rachel Price, landlady of the social club, said: “We wanted to fundraise for GNAAS because one of our close friends had a mini stroke and the air ambulance came to help. We also have biker friends who have needed assistance before. It’s a great cause.”

The brave volunteers have also agreed to take part in an auction of their remaining facial hair to raise additional funds for the charity, whilst a punk rock poet performs his appropriately titled ‘close shaves’ sonnet to set the scene.

As well as the headline act, from 12pm there will also be stalls and games for the kids, a family BBQ at 4pm and a motorcycle ride out with the ‘You Wobble, You Fail’ bikers club.

Two live bands are scheduled to perform, including ‘Suzuki and the Bandits’ from 6pm and ‘NE/DC’ who will take the stage at 9.30pm.

Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children.
