Cyclist airlifted after colliding with a 4×4 in north Northumberland


A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital after colliding with a 4×4 vehicle in the village of Ford, Northumberland. The man, believed in his 40s, sustained a severe head injury and was treated by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). The GNAAS doctor-led trauma team anaesthetised the patient on scene, working alongside a crew from the North East Ambulance Service who were first on scene. The man was flown to the RVI in Newcastle in a critical condition.

The man was flown to the RVI in Newcastle in a critical condition. The flight took 17 minutes. By road, the journey would have taken an additional hour.
