Cumbria Police raise over £1,000 in memory of PC Bill Barker

Cumbria Police has handed over more than £1,000 to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) in memory of PC Bill Barker. Officers and staff participated in the annual Bill Barker Memorial Football Tournament held at Whitehaven Amateurs Football Club on September 18. PC Bill Barker was killed in the 2009 Cumbria floods when the Northside Bridge in Workington collapsed below him as he was stopping traffic from using it. Detective Constable Steve Usher, one of the event organisers, said: “Bill continues to be missed by everyone at Cumbria Constabulary and this tournament is a nice way for everyone to come together and remember him. “This year we have raised more money than ever before and that is testament to all the officers and staff who gave up their time and donated money to remember Bill in such a positive way. “I’d also like to say thank you to Hazel Barker and the rest of the family for continuing to support this venture.” The tournament was won by the North Territorial Policing Area.
