A letter from the Chief Executive: aircraft offline

Dear supporter,

As you may have noticed, one of our aircraft is currently sat motionless on the helipad at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The helicopter, the Guardian of the North, was found to have developed a problem in one of its two engines after a flight yesterday. Please be reassured that at no point were any patients or crew in any danger.

The bad news is that the engine needs some major work in order to get it up and running again. The good news is that we have a spare in stock for such occasions and this is in the process of being fitted to the aircraft. We hope the situation will be resolved by Saturday.

In the meantime, our third helicopter will take on the workload of the Guardian of the North, meaning that there will not be any interruption to the service we offer.

We now need to get the broken engine repaired, so that when the next unforeseen malfunction takes place, we can fix it quickly and without disruption to the service. The engineers are working on it now, but it could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to refurbish. We’ll let you know as soon as we do.

Thanks for your continued support,

Grahame Pickering MBE

Chief Executive
