Man airlifted after collapsing in Penrith

A man in his sixties was airlifted from Penrith earlier today after collapsing. The Pride of Cumbria aircraft, based in the nearby village of Langwathby, responded with its specialist doctor and paramedic team. The helicopter landed on a local school field which allowed for easier access to the patient. The aircrew worked alongside the road paramedics at the scene, before the man was trasferred to the helicopter.

The man, from Penrith, was then flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The hospital specialises in cardiac problems. The flight took twenty minutes and the patient arrived in a critical condition.
