Patient Outcome

Once the patient has left our care it is not uncommon for the charity to lose contact as they journey through accident and emergency, surgery, intensive care and rehabilitation. However there are cases where our own consultants, who often combine roles at GNAAS and at local hospitals, find themselves in the ward treating the same patient that they had earlier rescued. In this scenario, the consultant can follow the patient’s pathway through to discharge and this keeps us informed. At other times the patient themselves or their relatives will also inform us of their progress by visiting us, posting notes or letters, organising fundraising activities or simply making a donation in appreciation.

Measuring the patients’ outcome is not simply to see how they are doing, although the crews are always very interested, it is in fact essential in assessing our impact and providing feedback that helps inform and develop new and more effective practices and procedures.
